White Star Foundation wins first place for the most diverse volunteer program! Studies show that all volunteers want to know their efforts make a difference…but not all volunteers want to do the same things. White Star Foundation’s volunteer program was recognized for its well-organized and varied volunteer activities. At White Star Foundation, volunteers can work with children one-on-one, work directly with needy families, help at community events or get involved in our education or marketing programs. The “Show your good side” contest was organized within the project “Warsaw Volunteers”, which aims to increase the number of volunteers and improve the quality of volunteering in Warsaw.
The most renowned academic centers in the country join forces with the Katalyst Education foundation on the CNX/Openstax project! To date, seven institutions have committed to participate in the project: AGH University of Science and Technology, Warsaw University of Technology, Wroclaw University of Technology, Poznań University of Technology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Gdańsk University of Technology, and Silesian University of Technology. Together with experts from these universities a new, high-quality physics textbook will be developed and published on an open platform with free access for all.
In September 2016, Katalyst Education completed the internationalization of the CNX/Openstax repository which brings this groundbreaking project one step closer to its Polish premiere. The internationalization adjusts the platform’s source code to support languages other than English. The interface of this tool specifically targets a Polish translation –the first step towards opening this digital textbook platform for Polish users. CNX/Openstax, a project of the Katalyst Education foundation, will publish free, high-quality university textbooks, with the goal of reducing the cost of higher education.
Summertime in the White Star Foundation Group was all about helping children. We are pleased to honor our summer volunteers who are the heart of our organization. By dedicating over 2070 hours of service to children in our community, our volunteers delivered over 900 kilograms of clothes in the span of two months! All the help with donations made it possible for us to enroll 160 new Sharing and Receiving Kids in the program!
Whoo Hoo! “Gotta Get Engineering” is launching in five Radom elementary schools in September 2016. The rush of schools vying for acceptance in the innovative program appeared to validate Radom’s title of ‘Precision City’. Radom Authorities have shown enthusiastic support for the fully-funded engineering program and confidence in the benefits the program will bring to Radom students and teachers.
Katalyst Engineering is proud to have taken the next important step on our journey to make “Gotta Get Engineering” a national program! We have initiated our first pilot program outside of Warsaw by implementing the Fifth grade module, “Energy & Wind”, at Bolesław Chrobry Primary School No. 2 in Lubsko. The foundation team was in Lubsko for three days to conduct teacher trainer workshops and had an incredibly productive time working with the Lubsko teachers!
Another success for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Poland! Today marked our first recognition ceremony organized on behalf of our volunteers, the mentors who make up such a vital part of our organization. At this unique event, we handed out awards to 30 different mentors who have been actively helping to make a difference in the lives of their Mentees for over a year now. We are so pleased to find that our volunteers are loving what they do, and we know for certain that the children are tremendously grateful for every contribution they make!
