Volunteering at White Star Foundation is a great way to get involved with your community. Here are some frequently asked questions about volunteering with us. If you have others, please don’t hesitate to contact us at volunteer@whitestarfoundations.org

What will I get out of volunteering?

We strongly believe that volunteering with White Star Foundation allows you to connect with your community and make it a better place. Potential benefits of volunteering with our foundations are: learning new skills, further developing your talents, making new friends, and advancing your career.

Who can volunteer with WSF?

We encourage individuals of all ages to volunteer with White Star Foundation.  All that is needed is a desire to make a difference. We accept volunteers from a variety of backgrounds including students, business professionals, stay-at-home moms and retirees.

Are there any restrictions to volunteering with WSF?

No. WSF encourages anyone willing to commit their time and talents to get involved regardless of age or capability. We strive to match our volunteers to opportunities that suit their individual preferences and abilities. You can sign up to volunteer with WSF on our website or via email volunteer@whitestarfoundations.org.

Can children under the age of 18 volunteer?

Yes. Volunteers under 18 need parental consent to be involved with White Star Foundation, but we have a number of areas where you can help. We will provide suitable tasks for your talents and you can count on ongoing WSF staff support.

My area of expertise varies from what you have listed; can I still help?

Yes. We are constantly improving our programs and always need new skill sets. Contact us and together we can find the most suitable volunteer opportunity for you with White Star Foundation.

Do I really have skills you need?

Yes. The White Star Group is so diverse that the volunteer opportunities encompass a whole range of skills and interests.  In addition, the White Star Foundation staff makes sure to provide the exact training and support you need to be successful.

What types of volunteers does WSF need most?

Our need for volunteers varies throughout the year, depending on the activities and programs offered by the foundations. For example, at the end of summer and winter, Family for Family Foundation always has a significant need for volunteers. Other opportunities become available during the school year with Katalyst Engineering workshops. We also have weekend volunteer opportunities, mostly from April to September, which involve a one-time commitment, and summer programs, which may involve a shorter-term commitment.

What if I don’t have that much spare time?

No problem.  We can work with you to develop a schedule that best fits your interests and time constraints.

Is there a way to volunteer occasionally?

Yes. Volunteers help out in all kinds of ways, both large and small, from coordination of deliveries to translating social media posts. Volunteers who are only able to volunteer their time occasionally are also highly valued at WSF, because a returning volunteer already understands our mission and values and knows what to do at once.
